Little green wagon

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Best. Birthday. Present. Ever.
My mom saw this on someone's porch and asked if she could buy it. They said yes. Now it is mine (thanks Mom). The perfect shade of green with just the right amount of rust and patina.

First snowfall of the year- slowly melting (we didn't even have to shovel!). We may just have a brown Christmas after all.

Just for fun

Sunday, December 18, 2011

This blog post really has no theme other than it is almost Christmas and I have a new toy to play with ( a new camera lens). I wasn't happy with the indoor/low light picture taking ability of the stock lens that came on my dslr. The new lens does the trick. All of these shots were taken inside on a cloudy day- something the other lens would have struggled with.

I went through a sewing phase a few years ago and made these stockings.

Oh matter how much we brush him or trim his hair...he always looks unkempt.

And, just a few soap shots I took for my mom's shop PigeonRiverSoaps. Isn't she all sassy getting her spring/Valentine's items made ahead of time!

That's all folks- thanks for stopping by!

Holiday spirit

Friday, December 9, 2011

Sorry I've been a bit absent lately- this time of year is always so busy. My show last weekend went well, my shop is re-stocked and I am *almost* caught up on custom orders/shipping. I am offering free shipping in my shop until the 15th. Use coupon code HOLIDAYSHIP to get the deal.

To help get in the Christmas spirit this year, I participated in the lovely package exchange over at oh, hello friend. My gifts are all wrapped and ready to be shipped- I even included a little something special from Wisconsin :) I kept my packages pretty simple with small pops of color using washi tape, bakers twine and vintage buttons (an idea I borrowed from pigeon river soaps- thanks mom!).

Lastly, I can't believe we don't have any SNOW yet! And trust me, I am not complaining. This year we decorated our porch with "free finds"- birch and dog wood branches/ sticks and grapevines, in an effort to save some moolah for an upcoming trip this spring.

My Shop will close down this Thursday and won't re-open until Tuesday, December 6. I am bringing my whole stock to the show and it may be gone when I get back!

How to use Junk to make something Groovy

Saturday, November 26, 2011

Looks like junk...right?

Here is how I use this "junk" to make one of my most popular christmas ornaments!
First I cut the owl out of clay.

Then I use a paper template...

and a glue stick cover...

to create the owl's eyes.

I use a part from a broken pen to continue outlining the eyes.

An old peanut butter jar lid makes fantastic little wings.

I use a pottery tool to press in some feathers...

and another tool for the eye dots and beak.

And finally, a straw to make a hole for hanging.

Clay + old junk + creativity = groovy little owl ornaments

The owls can be found in my shop (20% off until Monday).

I created this post to give you a peek into my creative process. This is NOT meant to be a tutorial, or a means to make it easy to copy my work. Please respect that! Instead, I hope this inspires you to find some junk laying around and create something groovy with it :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 24, 2011

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! My kiln is a-cooking and my belly is aching... and my shop is all set for Black Friday.
The 20% OFF will last until Monday. Just a heads up, my shop will close down Nov 29-Dec 3.

sketch book

Monday, November 7, 2011

My sketch book keeps me sane. I write down notes that I look back on when duplicating a design. I write down lists and supply orders. I sketch designs and new ideas to come back to. When I need a break from production (especially during busy times like the holiday rush), when I begin to feel more like a factory than an artist, my sketch book brings me back to the basics- sketching, designing, creating. Here are a few snapshots from my sketchbook- a messy page of glazing notes and some sketches to be made into decals. I loved to draw long before I discovered clay- it feels good to go back to it from time to time :)

More holiday designs

Friday, November 4, 2011

The kiln finally cooled enough to unload. I snapped some pics and got a few of these new guys listed in my shop. I'm off to the cottage this weekend- I wish it was to relax, but alas, it is our yearly shore clean-up/raking weekend. Have a good one everyone!

Monday, October 31, 2011

Happy Halloween! Take 15% off all orders in my shop today only with coupon code: HALLOWEEN.

The SCARIEST picture I could find...the current state of our kitchen. We spent the weekend tearing it apart- layers of paneling and plaster from the 1920's- eeek!

Projects that never end...

Friday, October 14, 2011

Do you have home improvement projects...or for that matter, any type of project that you start and never seem to finish? For us, that project has been our dining room. I am happy to report, that after over a year of slowly working, it is FINISHED. Now I get to showcase my collection of garage sale chairs (these chairs are an obsession of mine...for another blog post ;)). The art is hung on the walls- my favorite Alicia Bock photograph, vintage tin ceiling tiles, hello sign and key collection. My vintage cupboard (another garage sale find) has been painted with a distressed look- we have one cupboard door left to install.

The before pictures. No, this is not from an episode of hoarders...I took this picture after we first moved in. This is our dining room complete with tools, hundreds of tubes of caulk, couch, frootloops and ZE-Brick fireplace. We tore that beast out and put in patio doors.

This weekend we are on to the next never-ending project...the kitchen. Have a great weekend everyone!
