Stocking Stuffers

I got these little guys out of the kiln this weekend! They are so much fun. Im putting them in cute tins and selling them as sets- I think they will make great stocking stuffers :) Available in my etsy shop!

Taking risks

Friday, October 22, 2010

These slab leaf bowls/ plates were created over the last couple weeks in one of my classes at the Museum. The kids ranged in age from 4-12- an awesome group of kids, but a really difficult range of ages to plan for. I think these turned out great!

I encouraged the kids to experiment with layering glazes (something that was against the rules when I was in school!). I explain the risks, the element of surprise and love seeing which kids choose to be a little daring and those who play it safe. Artists take risks. Thats the message Im hoping they went home with...and some pretty cool pottery :)

Winter Preview

Sunday, October 10, 2010

It seems quite unfair to Autumn to already be listing winter/ Christmas items in my shop...but those of you who have survived the holiday shopping season on etsy know it is best to start early for sanity later on! These will slowly be making their way into my shop.

At last!

Saturday, October 9, 2010

My very first slab roller came in the mail last week! Good bye rolling pin! Look at that perfectly smooth, even slab of clay. Now I'm wondering how I managed for so long without one. This weekend I'm making lots and lots of new christmas ornaments.
If you have a slab roller...what material do you prefer to use between the roller and clay? Mine came with a slab sheet (thats what the directions call it) and canvas. I really like the smoothness of the slab sheet, but clay seems to stick to it at times. Any suggestions?

the island life

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

We live on an island. Did you know that? Well...it's not the type of island you paddle a boat to, but we do have to cross a draw bridge to get to our house :)
Everyday after work we put on our grubby clothes and go for a walk. I brought my camera along today. This is one of our favorite walking destinations on the island. It's a quiet park along the water with the neatest little stone bridges. I wish these were in my backyard.

winter charms

Friday, October 1, 2010

Sneak peek of a new winter design. Im trying to find just the right glaze for a snowy roof look. with several of these I tried a frothy white that was supposed to have lumps when fired. Some of the houses look like they have tumors... no good ( i didnt take photos of these). This one has just a smooth white roof, I like that better. Anyone know of a good white crawl glaze (cone 6)? Maybe I will try that next!
